An autopsy began Saturday on the exhumed remains of the confessed Boston Strangler in an attempt to identify his killer and possibly prove his innocence in the notorious murders.Already, the project leader is promising startling new findings that will be more than you ever anticipated when the research is complete. The body of Albert DeSalvo was exhumed from his Massachusetts grave Friday and transported to a forensic laboratory at York College in central Pennsylvania. The family has been unsatisfied all these many years concerning the death of Albert DeSalvo and failure to find anyone guilty of the death, said James E. Starrs, professor of forensic sciences at George Washington University, who is h stanley usa eading a team of scientists performing the autopsy.DeSalvo was blamed for the string of murders that spread fear in Boston between 1962 and 1964. He confessed to the killings while serving a life sentence for unrelated crimes, but was never charged and recanted his confession before being stabbed to death in prison in 1973.Along with their curiosity about his killer, the families of DeSalvo and Mary Sullivan, believed to be the last of the strang stanley cup usa ler s 13 victims, don t believe DeSalvo was the strangler. Btec Trips to Bathroom Get Air Passenger Questioned
The top U.S. military commander for the Middle East resigned Tuesday amid speculation about a rift over U.S. policy in Iran.Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that Adm. William J. Fallon had asked for permission to retire and that Gates agreed. Gates said the decision, effective March 31, was entirely Fallon s and that Gates believed it was the right thing to do. Fallon was the subject of an article published last week in Esquire magazine that portrayed him as opposed to President Bush s Iran policy. It described Fallon as a lone voice against taking military action to stop the Iranian nuclear program.Separately, the New York Times reported that there was no question that Fallon s departure was prompted by policy differences with the White House, and with Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Iraq. The newspaper said senior officials in the Bush administration were unhappy with remarks Fallon has made about Iran and the pace of U. For those of you who have been out of the, er, loop, the Hyperloop is Musk futuristic concept for a technology that would allow people to travel between San Francisco and Los Angeles in 30 minutes. When Joseph DiGiovanni described areas ravaged by superstorm Sandy on New York s Staten Island, he compared it to devastation he s seen before. It looks like a war zone, he said. We know what a war zone looks like, and it looks like a war zone. Devastation and determination in Belle Harbor 13:55 A U.S. Army specialist in Vietnam in the 1960s, DiGiovanni received two Purple Hearts for injuries he sustained when the ammunition belt of his machine gun was hit during an attack. He lost his left pinky finger and still has pieces of shrapnel in his chest and eyes. It hasn t affected his eyesight so far, he said. Since 1990, the number of Americans who are unaffiliated with any religion has been steadily on the rise, reaching nearly 20% today. A recent study says that one primary cause is that more people are going online. Allen Downey, a professor of computer science at the Olin College of Engineering, culled data from the General Social Survey GSS , which has been tracking stanley thermos mug religious pre stanley cup usa ferences in the U.S. since 1972. After plugging the GSS numbers into statistical models that look at the correlation between religiosity and other demographic information, he concluded that the factor with the strongest effect on religious affiliation is religious upbringing: the number of people raised without religion has been increasing, from 3.3% in the 1980s to 5.0% in the 1990s and 7.7% in the 2000s. However, that explanation accounts for only 25% of the overall drop in religious affiliation. What is causing the other 75% 鈥?45 million Americans 鈥?to lose their religion According to stanley cup price Downey, growth in Internet use accounts for at least an additional 20% of Americans who say they are unaffiliated with any religion. What the connection Downey says: It is easy to imagine at least two ways Internet use could contribute to [religious] disaffiliation. For people living in homogeneous communities, the Internet provides opportunities to find information about people of other religions and none , and to interact with them personally. Also, for people with religious doubt, the Internet provi

Outlaw Wild Bill Longley twice cheated the noose, but popular Texas folklore that he got away a third time is wrong. Scientists say tests of the body in his grave show that it is, indeed, Longley. We now can put the controversy to rest. Bill Longley has been dead 123 years and it s good to have it all cleared, Michael Reese of Houston, a Longley descendant, said Wednesday.Reese attended a briefing at the Smithsonian s National Museum of Natural History where forensic anthropologist Douglas Owsley described his 15-year effort to track down Longley s grave and solve the question of who, if anyone, was in it.Longley, an outlaw with a fast draw and a faster temper was said to have killed 32 people in the years after the Civil War. AP DES MOINES, Iowa - With the trail apparently cold in the search for two missing Iowa girls, the FBI is sending in tracking dogs and local authorities are draining a lake near where the girls bicycles were found.Elizabeth Collins, 8, and her cousin Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, were last reported seen Friday afternoon leaving their grandmother s stanley termos house. Their bicycles and Elizabeth s purse were found later that day near a bike trail at the edge of Meyers Lake in the northeast Iowa city of Evansdale. What followed was a massive sweep of the area that drew hundreds of volunteers over the weekend. Officials believe it will go faster due to the low level of the lake and the Cedar River into which it drains.Authorities previously dredged the lake and have been interviewing family, friends and registered sex offenders who live in the area. Abben said local, state and federal officials have been grasping for straws in the frantic search. In the age of suicide bombers, maybe the latest warning from federal authorities was only a matter of time.Government officials warned airlines Wednesday that terrorists might have explosives surgically implanted in their bodies. It s hard to get men to dance, said Robert Cazimero, a popular Hawaiian singer and a hula teacher. He said it s especially hard to find Hawaiian men willing to dance. Definitely don ;t try this at home or if you happen across a volcanic vent , but if you ;ve ever wondered what would happen if you pressed down on hot lava, this video is a must-watch. It a great lesson in how the reality of lava differs from the way many people think of the substance. Alex Rivest posted this video, which was taken at the volcano Kilauea on the Island of Hawaii. He explains that when lava emerges from one of the volcano vents, it comes out at 700 to 1,200 掳C. He also points out that the foot presses on the lava rather than sinking into it because of the de stanley cup nsity of the lava: This video shows how pressure applied to this dense material only causes a slight indentation. While this may not be surprising it is liquid rock , I stanley water bottle think that many people think of lava as more of a hot-watery-like substance. You would never fall into a lava lake the way you would a swimming pool, the molten rock is much more dense, so you would simply land on it, sink a little, and be burned. We ;re also assured that this demonstration was performed by a professional. What kind of professional, we ;re not entirely sure. Civil rights attorneys filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against this exclusive coastal town and accused its leadership of engaging in a campaign of harassment against the homeless. The American Civil Liberties Union alleged in its lawsuit that a city ban on sleeping on the street is unconstitutional, particularly because there are no year-round city-sponsored shelters. Continuing job worries drove consumer confidence lower in October for the third consecutive month, a New York-based private research group said Tuesday. The decline was steepe stanley mug r than expected. The Consumer Confidence Index dropped 3.9 points to 92.8, down from a revised 96.7 in September, according to stanley usa The Conference Board. Analysts had expected a reading of 94.The October figure is the lowest since March, when the reading was 88.5. The index had been rising since April, before falling 3 points to 98.7 in August and another 2 points in September. Subdued expectations, as opposed to eroding present-day conditions, were the major cause behind October s decline in consumer confidence, said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board s Consumer Research Center. And, while consumers assessment of the labor market this month showed a moderate improvement, the gain was not sufficient to ease concerns about job growth in the months ahead. Economists closely track consumer confidence because consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of all U.S. economic activity. The Expectations Index, one component of the Index that measures consumers outlook over the next six months, declined to 92.0 from 97.7. Meanwhile, The Present Situation index dipped to 94.2 from 95.3.The Conference Board s indexes are derived from responses received through Oct. 19 to a survey mailed to 5,000 households in a consumer research panel. In the future, we may be able to farm trees in a much more sustainable way 鈥?by paying attention to the microbes that gro vaso stanley w in forests. A new study reveals which forests can be farmed without the risk of releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. A group of Yale researchers wanted to know how deforestation was affecting vast communities of microbes that live in forest soil. Drastic changes to those c stanley botella ommunities, such as those that follow deforestation, can allow more CO2 to escape into the atmosphere and exacerbate global warming. Muddy, clay-like soils provide the most stable environment, probably because they ;re better at retaining nutrients than loose, sandy soils. We were astonished that biodiversity changes were so strongly affected by soil texture and that it was such an overriding factor, says Thomas Crowther, a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale School of Forestry 038; Environmental Studies. Texture overrode the effects of all the other variables that we thought might be important, including temperature, moisture, nutrient concentrations, and soil pH.
