Scottish inventor George Bennie had a dream. Where trains coul stanley cup dn ;t link destinations separated by water, grand railways would stretch through the skies, guiding propeller-powered planes from city to city. Technically, the Bennie Railplane isn ;t actually a monorail; to the contrary, it requires both a top and bottom rail to guide its propeller-powered planes. But like a monorail, the Railplane was meant to be a transit system deliberately separated from the ground-based one. Feeling that carrying freight and passengers along the same rails was inefficient, Bennie proposed these s stanley water jug uspended rails that would carry passenger-only stanley taza planes. He also thought it would be a brilliant way to carry passengers across the English Channel, making commutes from London to Paris fast and easy. Bennie constructed a protype rail in Milngavie near Glasgow, in 1930. The 130-yard track wasn ;t long enough to allow the Railplane to achieve its optimal speed of 150 miles per hour, instead only allowing for 50 miles per hour. Despite this, the track was met with much acclaim, and Bennie, who financed the original track himself, hoped to secure funding for a larger project. Unfortunately, Bennie went bankrupt in 1937, and his Railplane dreams were shattered. The track was scrapped in 1956, a year before Bennie death. Top photo from Gear Wheels Magazine. Like many irregular galaxies, this galaxy is heaving with constant star formation, and that kicks up a ton of dust. NASA explains: The dust temperatures tend to trace star forming activity. Spitzer data in blue hues indicate warm dust heated by young stars. Herschel instruments contributed the image data shown in red and green, revealing dust emission from cooler and intermediate regions where star formation is just beginning or has stopped. Dominated by dust emission, the Large Magellanic Cloud infrared appearance is different from views in optical images. DETROIT, Mich. -- A Detroit police officer who was killed in a deadly shooting Wednesday night has been identified as 46-year-old Rasheen McClain, a 16-year veteran of the force. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said that McClain was a natural leader. When McClain and his partner arrived at the scene, Craig said McClain requested additional backup. Two more officers arrived and they entered the home through the front door. The officers cleared the upper level and main level of the home and then began to move down into the basement to locate the suspect. Per bodycam video, Craig said the suspect came in from the left and fired quickly twice, striking McClain and his partner, Phillippe Batoum-Bisse. It was clear he had some type of tactical training, Craig said.As the suspect fled from the residence, he encountered more officers and several shots were fired. One of the officers struck the suspect, who then ran around the block, was apprehended and then taken into custody. If we have to raise interest rates more over time, we will, Powell said during a hearing of the Senate Banking Committee, which is considering his nomination for a second four-year term. Powell and the central bank are under rising pressure to rein in inflation without ramping up interest rates so high that the economy tumbles into another recession. On Tuesday, Powell took pains to rebuff suggestions from some Democratic senators that rate increases would slow hiring and potentially leave many people, particularly lower-income and Black Americans, without jobs. As the graphic below shows, confidence has been 12 points higher on average in years the incumbent party has won than in years the opposition party has won. In statistical terms, the gap is significantly different from zero at the 1 percent level of confidence. This makes sense intuitively. Voters are less likely to want big changes when they feel good about economic prospects, and more likely to want it when they think the economys headed south. It is also good news for Hillary Clinton. As the graphic shows, confidence has been relatively strong over 2016 to date 鈥?right at the average level for an incumbent party victory. But how confident should she be at this point Well, George W. If we have to raise interest rates more over time, we will, Powell said during a hearing of the Senate Banking Committee, which is considering his nomination for a second four-year term.
