Nearly 100 terrorist attacks, some intended to take place on U.S. soil, have been thwarted since Sept. 11, 2001, FBI Director Robert Mueller says. But he warns that many potential terrorists remain at large in the United States. He said punishment is not the answer for mistakes by individual FBI agents before the Sept. 11 attacks. On terrorism, Mueller said tens of attacks, probably close to a hundred around the world have been stopped in the past 15 months. He credited better intelligence gathering and coordination, and information from al Qaeda detainees in custody, including those he described as architects of would-be attacks. There have been any number of attacks on ships that have been thwarted, Mueller said. Without getting into details, we have thwarted a number of attacks stanley canada , both large and small. Asked if some of those attacks were aimed at U.S. targets, Mueller said: Yes. He specifically mentioned Jose Padilla, a U.S. citizen being held as an enemy combatant who authorities say was plotting to detonate a dirty radioactive bomb in the United States. The odds of finding a habitable planet elsewhere in the universe just get better and better. A new study claims that one in five Sun-like stars has an Earth-size planet in the habitable zone. That adds up to about 20 billion Earth-size planets in the Milky Way alone. Now, here the really fun part. If those calculations are correct, the closest Earth-size planet in the so-called goldilocks zone is only 12 light years away. Now, we just need a really fast spaceship. Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Charles Marsh were not nice men. For the most part, their not-niceness was taken out on each other. Occasionally, though, it was taken out on the innocent science of paleontology. If their feud hadn ;t built paleontology into what it is today, they might not even be remembered as fondly as they are now. Both Cope and Marsh were gifted paleontologists from fairly wealthy backgrounds, but while Cope was an adventurer and an academic, Marsh was a manager and organizer. Ironically, Marsh held the more academic position, as a Yale Professor of Paleontology and a museum curator. Cope was in the field writing and directing digs, and couldn 82 stanley cup becher 17;t manage an academic career on top of that. Perhaps it was when Cope displayed one of his finds only to have Marsh point out that he had put the vertebrae on backwards and the creature skull was on the tip of its tail. Whatever sparked the feud, it grew in size and scandal value over the course of their careers. Marsh started paying workers at Cope digs to send the best finds to him instead of passing them along to Cope. But with Perry as governor, the state has added hundreds of thousands more jobs than any state by far. And in a country desperate for jobs, this issue -- and Perry s claim that he deserves the credit -- sets him apart. We re hiring, we can t hire people fast enough, said Jeff Brown of California-based EA video games. He said the company is adding 300 jobs in Austin, Texas, partly because of low costs, but also because of Perry s three trips to persuade EA to move. They ve come to us specifically in the company, said Brown, and said, What do you need tell us what you need, and for the most part they follow through on it. Perry calls his formula simple. This isn t rocket science, he once said. You keep the taxes relatively low, you have a regulatory climate that is fair. But Perry also got lucky when high oil prices boosted energy-related jobs. Some of the organisms that move in do not play nice, introducing people to an unpleasant little thing called infection and a equally unpleasant little thing called pus. The Nikon D750, though, is the first pro-DSLR to come with a tilting screen, a significant ergonomic improvement. Tilting LCDs aren ;t new on cheaper DSLRs and mirrorless compacts, but manufacturers have been hesitant to put them on professional gear because they ;re liability when it comes to weather sealing, and they can add heft to what are already bulky cameras. According to Nikon reps, the interior components of D750 had to be completely reworked and redesigned to add a tilting, 3.2-inch, 1.2 million-dot LCD. The LCD only tilts about 90 degrees up, and it doesn ;t flip out at all. Still it a huge improvement over a stanley tumbler fixed LCD, and it will make shooting video much easier. As for the nitty gritty specs, the D750 has a 24.3-megapixel full-frame image sensor that FX format, in Nikon parlance . It got 51-point autofocus sensor, helping the camera find focus down to -3 EV, which suffice it to say is very dark. The new Expeed 4 processor helps improve some of the terrible moire and artifacts present back on the D8oo.

Studying 1,801 adults, the report looked at the sharing of opinions about the widespread government surveillance of Americans ; phone and email records following the Snowden leaks of 2013. It threw up some interesting findings. Firstly, people were less willing to discuss the issues via social media than they were in person. While 86 percent of those interviewed had in-person conversations about the surveillance, just 42 percent did the same on Facebook and Twitter. In both cases, people were more willing to share their opinions if they conformed with those they were talking with. But perhaps most interesting is the fact Facebook and Twitter were less likely to share their opinions in face-to-face settings, too. It seems that, especially when the people they are friends with on Facebook or follow on Twitter have different opinions to them, users shy away from shar stanley cup ing opinions. Indeed, the report explains that an average Facebook user鈥攕omeo

COATESVILLE, Pa. Two officials at a large southeastern Pennsylvania school district exchanged shockingly racist text messages on district phones, a prosecutor said Monday. Prosecutors learned of the messages during an investigat stanley mug ion into the Coatesville Area School District, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan told The Associated Press. The text messages that we reviewed were of a shockingly racist nature, he said. They looked li stanley cup ke something from 1813, not 2013. The Daily Local News of West Chester reported that Superintendent Richard Como and the high school s athletic director, Jim Donato, used district-owned cellphones to exchange a series of racist texts in June. Both resigned abruptly during the first week of school. A message left for Como wasn t immediately returned. A phone listing for Donato wasn t immediately available. Hogan said that once he learned of the racist texts, he requested that the district turn over copies of the messages and th stanley website e phones used to send them, and the district complied. He declined further comment pending the outcome of the investigation. The office of interim superintendent Angelo Romaniello Jr. referred comment to the school district s attorney, who did not immediately respond to an email and phone call from the AP. A large minority of students in Coatesville, a steel town 35 miles west of Philadelphia, are black. News of the racist texts emerged as the Coatesville chapter of the NAACP celebrated its Yjwd First Look at the Ape Headquarters in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

A trial is set to being March 2 in Bridgeport Superior Court. The eviction attempt has led to bad blood among family members. I didn t think he would do it, Mary Kantorowski said. My husband worked hard, difficult jobs to buy this house. He built the garage and did a lot of work on the house and he told me never to leave it. Her husband, John, died in 1997. This is just a despicable situation, her lawyer, Richard Bortolot Jr., told the Connecticut Post. Mary has been living here happily paying stanley cup all the expenses for the house and now her son, Peter, comes along and is telling her, `Get the hell out, so he can sell it. Mary Kantorowski s other son, Jack Kantorowski, told WTNH-TV: There are no other words to call him. He s just a scumbag. Bortolot says a probate court stopped Peter Kantorowski from trying to sell the house after the eviction papers were served on his mother in December. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, defending military commissions to prosecute suspected terrorists, told federal judge Stanley cup website s Wednesday the upcoming trials will be in the best traditions of the American legal system. Mukasey s remarks came amid fresh criticism of the legal processes at Guantanamo Bay. Just this week, the Pentagon defended the abrupt removal of a judge from a case after rulings unfavorable to the government.Speaking to an annual conference of Washington federal judges, Mukasey said the decision to try terrorism cases outside of civilian courthouses is not made lightly. Our nation and stanley becher our Constitution are never put in a more flattering light than when we prosecute in federal court those who have sworn to kill us, he said. But Mukasey, a former federal judge, said that is not always possible. Different situations call for different solutions, he said.As Mukasey was speaking, Human Rights Watch urged the government to move the trials of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others accused in the Sept. 11 attacks from Guantanamo Bay to federal court. The odds of finding a habitable planet elsewhere in the universe just get better and better. A new study claims that one in five Sun-like stars has an Earth-size planet in the habitable zone. That adds up to about 20 billion Earth-size planets in the Milky Way alone. Now, here the really fun part. Well this is convenient. The University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit has made its global temperature data available for Google Maps. Dubbed 82 stanley cups uk 20;CRUTEM4, the data allows Google Maps users to monitor how surface temperatures have changed over time, both globally and locally. Ars Technica 82 stanley cup becher 17 John Timmer has more info: CRUTEM4 calculates what called a global mean land surface temperature. An explosive wildfire ravaged the hillsides above this scenic coastal community Thursday, leaving the popular tourist region mostly deserted ahead of the U.S. Independence Day holiday weekend.Still, some people defied orders to evacuate the Big Sur area and stayed behind to try to save their homes and businesses from the blaze, which has burned 100 square miles of the Los Padres National Forest and destroyed at least 17 homes.Kirk Gafill, general manager of the popular cliffside Nep stanley cup enthe Restaurant, said he and five employees were up all night trying to protect the business his grandparents built in 1949. Wearing dust masks, the crew scrambled to stamp out embers, the size of dinner plates, dropping from the sky, he said. Based on what we saw during Hurricane Katrina and other disasters, we know we can only rely on ourselves and our neighbors. The raging blaze near Big Sur was one of more than 1,700 wildfires, mostly ignited by lightning, that have scorched nearly 800 square miles and destroyed more than 60 structures across northern and central California since June 20, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. For the first time in nearly 15 years, National Guard troops were brought in to be trained and used on the firelines, reports CBS News correspondent John Blackstone. The suspect s name was not immediately released. Quinn said investigators were trying to confirm his identity.Authorities believe the robber known as the Mad Hatter held up 17 banks in northern New Jersey between last year and Sunday, when he robbed a Bank of America branch located inside a supermarket in Union around 11:30 a.m. He walked out with $5,000. When you reference Ezra Pounds statement that The artist is the antennae of the race at SETI, the antennae part takes on a whole richer meaning. SETI hosts weekly colloquium at its Mountain View, California, offices, and a few times a year those talks put aside interstellar science and are, instead, organized by SETIs artist-in-residence. Right now that artist-in-residence is Charles Lindsay, and he invited me and mathematician Edward Frenkel, professor at UC Berkeley and author of the well-received book Love and Math: The Heart of Hidden Reality, to talk last week. This is a lightly edited video of the talk. The video is lo-fi, but the sound is good. The format of the video is that, after a short introduction by Lindsay, I talk for 20 minutes, then Frenkel talks for about 20 minutes, and then theres an extended conversation, between the three of us, and then involving questions from the audience. The United Nations has approved a set of measures to protect our planet from the dangers of incoming asteroids. The recently-adopted guidelines will correct a number of outstanding issues, including global coordination and an actual response plan. Indeed, this has been a long time coming. Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Chief Charles Ramsey is criticizing his own department after investigators working for Chandra Levy s parents disc stanley flasche overed a human leg bone and twisted wire in a Washington park where her remains were found.Police spent a week searching nearly a quarter of Rock Creek Park, employing cadaver dogs, crime scene technicians and cadets to look for bones and other evidence after a man walking his dog discovered Levy s skull and other bones on May 22. Dr. Jonathan Arden, Washington s medical examiner, has determined it is probably Levy s left shin bone, people familiar with the investigation said. But the bone yielded no clues about how Levy died, they said, speaking on condition they not be named.Arden identified the remains as Levy s using her dental records. He later ruled her death a homicide, but was unable to say how the former intern died. Perhaps it was when Cope displayed one of his finds only to have Marsh point out that he had put the vertebrae on backwards and the creature skull was on the tip of its tail. Whatever sparked the feud, it grew in size and scandal value over the course of their careers. Gonna eat soon I hope not, because we ;re going to talk about pus. Although mostly it white, it can be yellow, red, green, and blue. The color depends on the kind of stuff that formed it. Let 82 stanley kubek 17 find out about the ecology of pus. The moment anyone hits puberty, it becomes apparent to them that their body is just a comfortable staging ground for vast numbers of microorganisms. Some of those microorganisms help them digest their food and can even do battle with less-pleasant organisms. Some of the organisms that move in do not play nice, introducing people to an unpleasant little thing called infection and a equally unpleasant little thing called pus. Over the la stanley water bottle st few years top DSLRs have gotten so good that they ;re not just for photographers; they ;re used by filmmakers and producers to shoot high-quality video, too. It has the company latest Expeed 4 image processor, which enables the camera to shoot up to 6.5 stanley cup becher frames per second. It got 51-point autofocus sensor, helping the camera find focus down to -3 EV, which suffice it to say is very dark. The D750 also has the same improved video that was introduced earlier this year on the much more expensive D810. The new Expeed 4 processor helps improve some of the terrible moire and artifacts present back on the D8oo.

Canadian band Wolf Parade California Dreamer is one of those songs that sounds like a warning 鈥?a cautionary ballad that Los Angeles exists as a town intent on swallowing people whole. Accurate or not, it was a warning I personally didn ;t heed. Dry conditions have caused the Aral Sea eastern lobe to completely dry up for the first time in modern history. It was once the fourth largest lake in the world, but owing to a disastrous irrigation project, it all but gone. Top: The Aral Sea in 2000 left and 2014 right . Back in the 1960s, the Soviet Union undertook a major water diversion project on the arid plains of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The resulting irrigation made the desert bloom, but it completely wrecked the Aral Sea. Especially large retreats in the eastern lobe of the Southern Sea appear to have occurred between 2005 and 2009, when drought limited and then cut off the flow of the Amu Darya. Water levels then fluctuated annually between 2009 and 2014 in alternately dry and wet years. Less than a decade ago, the situation comedy sitcom form of TV show was in decline at the networks and some critics even declared TV comedy dead. But these days, funny is making a comeback.Pictures: New fall TV on CBS Two and a Half Men kicked off its Ashton Kutcher era this season with a record-breaking 29 million viewers. Though ratings have dropped since then, the show s ninth season is up 44 percent, CBS News contributor Mo Rocca reported. Emmy-winning best comedy Modern Family is up 25 percent. And in its seventh season, How I M stanley flasche et your Mother has risen 19 percent, while The Big Bang Theory is up 10 percent. Even more promising is the out-of-the-box success of this year s new comedies, ABC s Last Man Standing, Fox s New Girl, and CBS breakout hit 2 Broke Girls. Why is the sitcom so successful now Rocca said, The idea that the bad economy is driving us to sitcoms is an interesting idea. I wish it were true. I just don t think it is. I think people are a l stanley website ittle bit sick of procedural dramas and, hopefully, a lot sick of reality TV. It s cadavers and Kardashians. We ve had enough of them. Early Show co-anchor Chris Wragge noted that a lot of sitcoms went by the wayside because of the interest in reality TV. Dalton Ross, assistant managing editor of Entertainment Weekly magazine, said, That was definitely part of it. Residents at a public meeting Sunday made passionate arguments about whether their kids should ever return to the site of the tragedy. This is some seriously weird shit, but I guess Avicii must be a fan of Pendleton Ward online-only cartoon Bravest Warriors. Still, you ;d think that since this is the official music video for Avicii song Hey Brother, someone would have actually put in some effort to make this good. And frankly, it goes beyond being bad for how lazy this video is. It like Cartoon Hangover, the YouTube channel that shows Bravest Warriors, just gave Avicii people permission to use the episode and they didn ;t feel like changing much. It almost literally just part of the episode Sugarbellies with some random shots of an animated A stanley termoska vicii waving his hand while on stage. Also sometimes his name flashes on the screen for some reason. If anything this is mostly disappointing, because Bravest Warriors and basically everything Pen Ward does is a great cartoon that could use some more exposure. This, however, is not the way to go about it. UPDATE: Apparently the folks at Cartoon Hangover only had two months to come up with this and wanted to, at the least, show the mil cups stanley lions of Avicii fans who the Bravest Warriors are. So I suppose, under time constraints, it understandable that they couldn ;t do much. It still a shame considering they could have come up with something stella stanley france r given a realistic amount of time, but it is still important to get the word out.
