The CCTV operator reported to police that someone was acting suspiciously ;, according to The Telegraph. Unfortunately, the officer who decided to follow up on the report was actually the shadowy figure in question. Sadly, the name of the officer and exact location haven ;t been disclosed, but it happened somewhere in the south of England. The poor guy doing the chasing reassured the CCTV operator that he was hot on the heels of the suspect. Uh, at least until the police officer boss turned up in stanley shop the CCTV control room and recognized him. A senior police officer told The Telegraph: Every time the man darted in to another side alleyway, the [officer] was turning immediately into the same alleyway, but every time the CCTV operator asked what he could see there was no trace 8230; [he] had been chasing himself round the streets. Bird populations in the United States and Canada have dropped by 29% since 1970, signifying 2.9 billion birds lost in almost 50 years, according to a new study. The scientists involved in the study warn that like a canary in a coalmine, birds reveal environmental health. This steep loss of bird populations, including some of the most common birds like sparrows and finches, shows that human impacts on the continent s environment mean it can no longer support the wildlife systems it once did.Normally, it s hard to track animal populations this way. But birds are much easier to monitor. The study combines almost 50 years of data, including information collected by citizen scientists and weather radar data of migratory birds from 143 stations across North America. Observations by people were shared with the North American Breeding Bird Survey at the US Geological Survey, the Canadian Wildlife Service, the Audubon Christmas Bird Count and Manomet s International Shorebird Survey. Citizen-science participants contributed critical scientific data to show the international scale of losses of birds, said John Sauer, study co-author at the US Geological Survey. He then repeats the process till he printed out every bone. 3-D printing technology can serve a number useful functions for paleontologists. Even cooler, though, is Lacovara plan to turn the 3-D models into robots so that he can test theories about how dinosaurs moved when they were alive. Lacovara points out that everything we know about the posture and movement of dinosaurs is pure speculation. Lacovara has teamed up with another scientist to help him design the robotic components for the models, and they say that by the end of the year they ;ll have a working robotic dinosaur limb to try out. Harnessing fire is up there with language and an upright stance in terms of important milestones in early human development. And if the findings from a recent excavation are verified, hominids may have been playing with fire for far longer than we previously suspected. A team led by Francesco Berna, an archaeologist at Boston University, made the discovery in Wonderwerk Cave, located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The team found the ash of grass and leaves, as well as bone fragments at a depth of 30 meters鈥攔oughly one million years ago. Wonderwerk is one of the oldest known caves to have sheltered hominids. But when he planned to visit China capital last week over a new viral outbreak emerging from central Hubei province, his daughter got worried. Before I left for Beijing, my daughter was saying, Oh, you should not go, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confided to the U.N. health agency executive board in a public session on Monday. The account exemplifies the fine line WHO officials are navigating between fear about the new coronavirus and hopes of increasing international preparedness over an outbreak that has nike dunk taken more than 36 af1 0 lives and infected at least 17,238 people in China since late December 鈥?and could become a pandemic. Predicting the outcome of elections can sometimes be easy. Other years, it is not. GENEVA AP stanley cup 鈥?The World Health Organization chief has traveled a dozen times to monitor the Ebola response in Congo. So far, growth has been exponential in China, but elsewhere cases remain under 150, scattered across nearly two dozen countries. Instead of spending time on fear and panic, we should say this is the time to prepare, Tedros said. Because 146 cases, by any standard, is very low. As governments clamp down on travel to China, airlines suspend flights and Chinese nationals fret about rising xenophobia and ostracism, WHO is calibrating a message of praise to Chinese officials and trying to focus on the epicenter 鈥?Wuhan city and surrounding Hubei province 鈥?to keep the virus from spiraling out of control. It also wants to help get weaker health systems ready. Before he left for the meeting with President Xi Jin

TOKYO AP 鈥?Japanese officials sounded the alarm Thursday as Tokyo reported record-breaking coronavirus cases for the third-straight day with the Olympics well underway. Tokyo reported 3,865 new cases Thursday, up from 3,177 on Wednesday and double the numbers a week ago. We have never experienced the expansion of the infections of this magnitude, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato told reporters. He said the new cases were soa stanley cup ring not only in the Tokyo area but across the country.Nationwide, Japan reported more than 9,500 confirmed cases on Wednesday, also a record, for a total of about 892, jordan 000 infections and about 15,000 deaths since the pandemic began.Japan has kept its cases and deaths lower than many other countries, but its seven-day rolling average is growing and now stands at 28 per 100,000 people nationwide and 88 per 100,000 in Tokyo, according to the Health Ministry. This compares to 18.5 in the United States, 48 in Britain and 2.8 in India, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. While almost not yeezy hing is helping to slow the infections, there are many factors that can accelerate them, said Dr. Shigeru Omi, a top government medical adviser, noting the Olympics and summer vacation. The biggest risk is the lack of a sense of crisis, and without it the infections will further expand and put medical systems under severe strain.READ MORE: Why the delta variant is causing an explosion of cases among the unvaccinatedTok
