WILMOT 鈥?Township of Wilmot staff are recommending council approve a controversial zone change application that would pave the way for gravel mining on 57 hectares of prime agricultural land.The proposed Hallman Pit is located on the north side of Witmer Road at 1894-1922, across the street from seven existing aggregate operations. Only 10 per cent of the amount that theyre permitted to take is being mined, said Mike Balkwill from Wellington Water Watchers. There is no need for a new pit in that area and this is part of the problem with the way gravel mining applications are approved now.
