Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas announced Sunday that it has proposed a solution to the family of a newborn child who was denied health insurance coverage. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is planning to close by Friday as many as 13 trailer parks in Louisiana where victims of the 2005 hurricanes are currently living. The move is intended to help the hurricane victims move into more stable, permanent housing, FEMA said. But advocates are concerned that a housing shortage in the still-recovering area could leave some struggling to find a place to live.It was not clear how many residents remained in parks slated for closure Friday, though Ronnie Simpson, a FEMA spokesman, estimated there were dozens. Residents were given at least 60 days notice, and FEMA is offering rental assistance to those living in the trailers, he said. People act like we re doing a disservice for moving people from a little trailer to an apartment or a house, he said Thursday. I m not sure that anyone really thought of these trailers as being their permanent home; I hope not. They were meant for temporary housing. In what will be its first widespread commercial use, Split Scimitar Winglets have officially been giving the go-ahead to grace United Boeing 737-800s all across the country. While winglets themselves are nothing new, this more aerodynamic incarnation should cut fuel costs by 2%鈥攊n other words, pushing their total winglet-related savings to $200 million. Inspired by the scimitar, the new winglets retrofit a blended ventral fin to the plane wings, essentially stanley cup making it look like two very thin and presumably self-loathing dolphins jammed themselves head first into either side of the plane. Because it makes use of both the split/ventral singlet design and the high-performance scimitar tips, United has managed a cruise performance gain of 30-40%. So how do these winglets manage to reduce so much drag Because winglets curve upward, the higher air pressure on the wing lower surface flows toward the tip and curls with the winglet. Since the air is pushed upward, this reduces the vortex and subsequent energy loss that is created by air flowing around the wingtip. The split design of the new ones, then, further reduce the vortices formed behind the wing, which in turn further reduces energy loss. You ;ll start seeing the entire Boeing 737 fleet being retrofitted with the fancy new winglets sometime early next year. When former financier Bernard Madoff was arrested last month and accused of swindling clients out of $50 billion, he insisted his family members were in the dark, even though some of them held key positions in his investment firm. But now, a CBS News investigation by Chief Investigative Correspondent Armen Keteyian has uncovered evidence that raises questions about what Madoff s family knew - and when they knew it.In Palm Beach, Fla., there are two lavish homes within 10 minutes of stanley italia each other. The first, worth an estimated $9.3 million, belongs to Bernard Madoff. The other, said to be worth $4.6 million, is the Florida residence of Peter Madoff, Bernard s brother and long-time business partner. The paper trail on these two residences calls into question what family members may have known. CBS News has learned that Madoff and his brother, along with their wives, took steps two years ago -- around the time that federal regulators started probing Madoff s business activities -- that could help prevent their Florida homes from being taken away from them, something possible under Florida state law. Just as we did a year ago, I ;m kicking off 2014 with a list of design trends I expect to gain ground over the next twelve months. The world of interactive design is an extreme fluid in terms of what determined as a staple of good design from year to year. It should go without saying that these are my thoughts as to how design will play out over the course of the next year. I will certainly be wrong on a few of them, but I ;m also extremely confident in all of these making some sort of appearance throughout the course of the year, as prominent or short-lived as they may be. 1. The oil company partner, drone manufacturer AeroVironment, flew its first commercial flight in Alaska on Sunday. And it didn ;t just send a dinky quadcopter to do the job either. Before there was the cow, there was the auroch, a sinewy beast that roamed Eurasia by the millions. And over thousands of years, humans bred the creature into the millions of milk-and-steak-machines we have today. The last auroch, however, died in the 17th century. A group of scientists now want to bring back the auroch by selectively breeding modern cows鈥攄omestication, but in reverse. Lately, a de-extinction movement to bring back long-gone creatures like the woolly mammoth and the passenger pigeon has been afoot. This slightly fantastical idea relies on animal cloning, a technique that works rarely, but just often enough to give radical thinkers hope. Meanwhile, the Tauros Programme to bring back aurochs, which began in 2008, eschews cloning for old-fashioned selective breeding guided by modern DNA analysis. Over at Modern Farmer, Kristan Lawson has written a fascinating overview of the Tauros Programme as well as its rival, founded by a disgruntled former Tauros scientist . Mothers are responsible for the welfare of their children. This is something we assume is true and something that guides the behavior of women with kids. They are watchful. They are worried. They set boundaries: Go to bed at such-and-such hour. Eat a balanced breakfast. Follow these rules. A man trying to fish out his cell phone from a commuter train toilet got his arm stuck, forcing the train to stop and causing delays throughout the rail system.Thousands of commuters were delayed and several trains were rerouted while rescue workers tried to pull him out, a Metro-North Railroad spokesman said Thursday.Edwin Gallart, 41, of the Bronx, dropped his cell phone in the toilet of his train shortly after it left Grand Central Terminal during rush hour on Wednesday, Metro-North spokesman Dan Brucker said. The train was held at a station after a passenger heard Gallart s cries for help. When train workers failed to pry Gallart s arm free, police officers and firefighters were called in to use a blowtorch to break apart the stainless steel toilet. Meantime, all 600 passengers aboard the train were put on other trains and all northbound trains had to be rerouted, causing significant delays and thousands of dollars in additional costs for Metro-North, which might seek damages from Gallart, Brucker said.Gallart s home telephone number was unlisted and he couldn t be reached for comment. ponent--type-recirculation .item:nth-child 5 stanley cups display: none; inline-recirc-item--id-92e44a40-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d, right-rail-recirc-item--id-92e44a40-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d display: none; inline-recirc-item--id-92e44a40-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d ~ .item:nth-child 5 display: stanley italia block stanley ca ; Nngo Watch Person Of Interest s Crew Go Inside The Brains Of Wall Street

But even he objected to a 1970s FBI investigation of whether he was involved in a string of beatings.According to documents obtained by The Associated Press, the federal government came close to charging Knievel, who in turn threatened to sue the FBI for alleging he was connected to a crime syndicate. Neither followed through.Knievel, who died last November in Clearwater, Fla., repeatedly denied his involvement to both investigators and victims, according to stanley termoska the documents. Knievel stated that he was not responsible for what just happened to name redacted and that he had no control over the thing according to one phone conversation recounted in an FBI interview.Knievel, immortalized in the Smithsonian Institution as America s Legendary Daredevil, donned red, white and stanley water bottle blue for his death-defying stunts. He had a knack for outrageous yarns and claimed to have been a swindler, a card thief, a safe cracker and a holdup man. His most well-known run-in with the law was a 1977 attack on movie studio executive Shelly Saltman, whom the daredevil beat with a baseball bat in the parking lot of 20th Century Fox.Saltman promoted Knievel s infamous attempt to jump Idaho s Snake River Canyon and then wrote a book about the experience, angering Knievel by portraying him as an alcoholic, a pill addict, an anti-Semite and an immoral person. Ever heard of the Sally-Anne experiment It a simple puppet show. It meant to demonstrate whether you understand what called the theory of mind. And it raised a lot of questions and a lot of ire. The Sally-Anne Experiment started out as a story, but was developed into a puppet show in the 1980s. It a twisted tale of deception, and it water bottle stanley point is to find out if the viewer realizes that someone was deceived. Two characters, Sally and Anne, stand onstage. Sally has a basket. Anne has a box. On stage is a marble. Sally takes the marble and hides it in her basket. While she gone, Anne takes the marble stanley tumbler and hides it in her box. Sally returns. That not always the answer people give. In a study done on a group of kids, some of which were neuro-typical, some of which had Down Syndrome, and some of which were autistic, the autistic kids had the most trouble realizing that, although they knew that the marble was in the box, Sally didn ;t. It the difference of just one inch. In 2005, the guardrail manufacturer Trinity Industries shaved that much off its guardrail design, saving the company $2 per guardrail head. It also neglected to report this design change to the Feder stanley fr al Highway Administration. Tens of thousands of these potentially deadly guardrail heads are now installed all over the country, and after numerous accidents and deaths, states are finally banning it. Last week, a jury found Trinity Industries had defrauded the Federal Highway Administration by failing to report the design change. In all, lawsuits have linked Trinity guardrail to 14 accidents and 5 deaths. Fourteen states have now banned this guardrail, reports the New York Times. How can one inch make such a difference It helps to understand how rail heads, or the ends of the guardrails, are designed to protect drivers. The rail head is a flat plate of metal that slides along a channel on the rail upon impact, pushing the metal of the rail itself out of the way. The channel on Trinity guardrail is one inch narrower, which makes it more likely to get stuck, according to some state officials. The homes might not have power until Christmas, NV Energy spokesman Mark Severts said.As the sun shined Thursday, loads of snow that had collected on giant trees was melting and creating slippery conditions on neighborhood roads. But the main road up the mountain was clear, and authorities allowed residents and others to drive up the mountain even without 4-wheel drive vehicles or chains. The American Postal Workers Union issued a statement Friday saying: Retirement is a personal matter, and the union defers to the decisions of employees who meet the qualifications. Astronomers tend to assume that the timing of Earth-striking meteors are completely random, but a recent analysis suggests that meteor impacts are more likely to occur at certain times of the year and at certain locations. Such is the conclusion of researchers Carlos and R stanley becher aul de la Fuente Marcos of the Complutense University of Madrid. Their new and yet to be published p stanley cup aper shows that the frequency of impacts are higher at certain times of the year 鈥?times when Earth orbit takes us through streams of meteoroids. The ensuing seasonality and lack of randomness is caused by planetary perturbations, especially Jupiter . And in fact, this study suggests stanley cup becher that some recent Earth impacts may be linked with resonant groups of Near Earth Objects NEOs and possibly very young meteoroid streams which are generated by the break-up of an asteroid or comet . Asteroids and meteors are sometimes herded by planets or moons into loose orbits called resonant streams. Every so often they ;re broken up by large planets. To reach their conclusion, the investigators studied 33 multi-kiloton impact events from 2000 to 2013 that were detected by infrasound acoustic pressure sensors operated by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty Organization. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation explains more: They found 17 impacts occurred in the northern hemisphere and 16 in the south; 25 impacts occurred within 40 degrees north or south of the equator, while only e

Classic science fiction is full of stuff that makes no sense, from a scientific standpoint. And it also full of cliches, which were bright and shiny once upon a time but now just feel pointless. But is some of that stuff actually necessary to the genre The Center for Science and the Imagination over at Arizona State University has an interesting blog post about doing away with tired old conventions in science fiction. And along the way, Jason Krell suggests that maybe som stanley thermos mug e unscientific or overused ideas are necessary, while others are just fun: A good example of a necessary convention is faster-tha stanley vaso n-light travel/communication. In a story that has a lot of space travel its the only way a character can get anything done in their lifetime without sacrificing all connections to their family, friends and colleagues. It will almost always be necessary if the author wants to get out of the solar system. In other cases, its a bit less clear cut. An author has to weigh the cost of staying true to science with telling a compelling and dramatic story. Despite the fact that having a dogfight in space would be the stupidest form of space combat, Star Wars wouldnt have been quite as emotionally engaging without the tense fight around the Death Star. But how do you decide which notions are essential to a good space yarn like a way to travel faster than light and which are just kind of nice to have, but maybe should be phased out Tha stanley termosar t the tough part. Updated at 2:59 p.m. ETLOS ANGELES - Bail for a former elementary school teacher accused of taking bizarre photos of children in his classroom for a sexual thrill was raised Wednesday to $23 million, as parents questioned why they weren t notified when the pictures were found more than a year ago.Mark Berndt, 61, appeared in court for the first time after being charged with committing lewd acts involving 23 boys and girls, ages 6 to 10, between 2008 and 2010.The tall and graying Berndt, represented by public defender Liz Braunstein, seemed calm in court as he spoke only to acknowledge his identity and birthdate and agreed to have his arraignment put over to Feb. 21.He has made no statements to authorities, said sheriff s spokesman Steve Whitmore. Humanity ha stanley termoska s been obsessed with exploring the stars for millennia, it just took a little while for us to obtain the means of actually doing so. In his new book, The Art of Space, author Ron Miller explores both how we developed the technology necessary for space travel and how that technology has steadily migrated from science fiction to science fact. FROM EARTH TO ORBIT For a modern invention synonymous with cutting-edge technology, the spaceship has a surprisingly long pedigree, one that goes back more than 200 years. For centuries people have dreamed of traveling to the moon and the other worlds in our solar system. image: Jack Coggins For a long while, man ambition to leave earth had to remain dreams: there was no realistic way to make such journeys, so authors fell back on fantasy and magic. But in 1783, an amazing new invention brought these dreams one step closer to reality: a hot-air balloon, the brainchild of pioneering brothers Joseph-Michel and Jacques-脡tienne Montgolfier. If it were possible for a human being to lift himself half a mile 805 meters from the surface of the earth, then surely a flight to the moon was merely a matter of scale As the nineteenth century progressed, popular literature reflected the growing belief t

Astronomers have spotted a new moon orbiting Neptune鈥攖he first to be discovered in over a decade鈥攂y studying images that were archived all the way back in 2009. The new moon, known as S/2004 N1,was discovered in images acquired by the Hubble Space Telescope. Mark Showalter, based at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, stumbled across the moon when studying images taken in 2009. Showalter was actually studying images of Neptune rings, which are incredibly faint. But instead of using long exposures, he stacked multiple, short exposures on top of each other鈥攁nd out leapt the moon, clear as day. His team confirmed the finding by studying images acquired back in 20 stanley mugs 04, too. The new moon has a nearly circular orbit, and travels around the planet once every 23 hours. But scientists are now scratching their heads over the finding. The moon is so small鈥攋ust 20 kilometers across鈥攖hat the astronomers are surprised it managed to survive the chaotic period when Neptune other moons formed. As New Scientist explains: Neptune biggest moon, Triton, is 2705 kilometres wide and orbits backwards 鈥?travelling in the opposite direction to the planet spin. Its large size and wonky orbit led astronomers to believe that Triton was captured by Neptun stanley taza e gravity about 4 billion years ago and that it destroyed whatever moons the gas giant originally had as it was sett stanley cup ling into its new home. The Bradley Terminal hadn ;t been updated since 1988 and was definitely beginning to show its age. That is, until the design team at Fentress Architects got their hands on it. The firm, whose other notable works include the Denver, San Jose, and Seattle-Tacoma airports, drew inspiration from the Pacific Ocean and incorporated a wave motif into the architecture as evidenced by the broadly sloping roofline resembling a crashing wave. As the Fentress site explains: The Los Angeles ambiance is captured with Pacific Ocean-inspired roof forms that recall rhythmic waves breaking on the shore. The wave-like ceiling will reduce solar glare and heat from the ocean on the west and bathes the terminal in natural light from the northeast. Expansive glass curtain walls offer dramatic views of the airfield and the nearby Santa Monica Mountains. The architecture unifies the airport and pays homage to the Theme Building parabolic arches. In addition, the 850,000 square-foot, three story terminal will offer the most advanced Integrated Environmental Media System, an interactive multimedia architecture designed to improve the traveling experience and ease congestion in the sixth busiest airport in North America, when it opens to the public at the

1. It plans to use a souped-up version of a commercial plane, as it did with the 747s.The current powder blue and white jets were delivered in 1990 and were expected to last about 30 years. Even if President Barack Obama serves two terms he will be out of office in January of that year. On the evening of March 13, 1938, legendary CBS radio newsman Robert Trout reported fr stanley mug om New York that the Nazis were driving with all their might to bring Austria under complete Nazi domination. Moments later, in a watershed broadcast moment, Trout stopped talking so listeners could hear the live dispatches of correspondents throughout Europe. Reporting from Vienna was a CBS executive making his on-air debut: Edward R. Murrow. Everything is quiet in Vienna tonight, Murrow reported. There is a stanley cup certain air of expectancy about the city, everyone waiting and wondering where and at what time Herr Hitler will arrive. Seventy-five years after that ground-breaking broadcast, CBS World News Roundup remains on the air waves, making it America s longest-running news program on radio or TV. In those early days, millions of Americans listened to Murrow s radio dispatches from London, including a report on the Allies D-Day invasion of Normandy. William L. Shirer and Howard K. Smith were among other war-time correspondents who rose to prominence through newscast. The coverage of the Second World War was absolutely riveting, said Charlie Kaye, executive producer for radio at CBS News.

Gov. Mitt Romney intensified his efforts to take control of the troubled Big Dig on Thursday as inspectors nearly quadrupled the number of potential ceiling bolt problems in the tunnel where a woman was killed by 12 tons of falling concrete. The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority revealed at least 230 other points where bolts are separating from 3-ton concrete roof panels, an increase over earlier inspections that found 60 defects. The earlier defects were enough for officials to order a sweeping review of every roadway, tunnel and bridge in Boston s entire highway system.Romney also started legal proceedings to oust the chairman of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, which oversaw the troubled $14.6 billion Big Dig highway project through downtown Boston. Interstellar is Christopher Nolan end-of-the-world space epic. It is beautiful and ambit water bottle stanley ious and stanley cup usa incredible from beginning to end. But it impossible for me to rehash someone else masterpiece. You need to see Interstellar for yourself. Interstellar opens you to the idea that you really cannot begin to fathom how large the universe and what lies beyond is. It is an epic in the sense that it is a vast tale with a scope that spans worlds and years and generations. And it conveys the deep emotional toll that I ;d imagine traveling between those spaces and universes could take on a person. This, of course, is a review. But I ;d like to keep things as spoiler-free as possible. I went into Interstellar blind. I had seen the trailers that in two minutes had filled me with anxiety. Imagine a protracted version of that over nearly three hours . I knew a very few basic plot-level things about the movie: the world is ending, Matthew McConaughey has to go to space to save humanity, and something about wormholes. I also knew I wanted to see it as soon as possible. That was about it. I ;d like everyone else to have the opportunity to fly blind into Interstellar as well. Honestly, you have my permission to stop reading here if you 8 stanley taza 217;d like. Just go see the movie. Don ;t read anything else about it. I must tell you that I find occasional comments from some of your leaders hurtful and inappropriate, Eikenberry said Sunday. When we hear ourselves being called occupiers and worse and our generous aid programs are being dismissed as totally ineffective and the source of all corruption, our pride is offended and we begin to lose our inspiration to carry on. The rail head is a flat plate of metal that slides along a channel on the rail upon impact, pushing the metal of the rail itself out of the way. The channel on Trinity guardrail is one inch narrower, which makes it more likely to get stuck, according to some state officials. The post office did not say if the new proposal would include financial incentives. The American Postal Workers Union issued a statement Friday saying: Retirement is a personal matter, and the union defers to the decisions of employees who meet the qualifications. However, the union said it continues to challenge the Postal Service s authority to offer voluntary early retirement without including severance pay.

In seven of the fields, the earnings gap gr stanley tumblers ew during the five-year period. The report suggests that women still struggle to break through the glass ceiling that historically has been a barrier to advancement in the work stanley mug place. I don t find one line of good news in the report, said Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y. Yet I think people believe women are doing better. Maloney and Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., discussed the report with female journalists invited to a luncheon Wednesday. The lawmakers are releasing it to the public on Thursday. The report does not explain why earnings may have dropped for women managers. It noted that the pay gap was widest among parents, and that women find it harder to balance children and a career.Among married managers, nearly 60 percent of men have children at home, compared to 40 percent of women. The 10 industries examined in the report by the GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, employ 71 percent of female workers and 73 percent of female managers in the United States. For example, female managers in the communications industry made 86 cents for every dollar earned by male managers in 1995. Five years later, a woman in the same field made 73 cents for every d Ldjj JetBlue pilot charged with interfering with crew
We ;ve unearthed mummy upon mummy from Egypt, the oldest dating back to 3500 B.C., but one thing has remained a bit of a mystery: what does the mummification process actually entail from a surgical point of view How did they remove the brains, guts, and other vital organs鈥攚hat tools did they use and how did they train for it One anthropologist thinks he found out. Much like a 46-million-year-old mosquito fossilized mid-meal, Egyptian mummification has long provided us embalmed snapshots of an ancient way of life. Just last week, we found out why King Tut mummy had not been preserved in the most kingly fashion: his body seemingly experienced ignition inside its sarcophagus due to a flammable cocktail of oxygen, embalming oils, and combustible linens. https://gizmodo/first-blood-filled-mosquito-fossil-makes-jurassic-park-1... One myth of mummy-making has long appealed to our, or perhaps just my, gross sensibilities: mushy brain parts were usually removed from Egyptian mumm stanley water jug ies and flushed out through the nose, weve been told. And that not all: more often than not, they were disemboweled and rid of their internal organs as well, to stop decomposition. A group of Duke University scientists have found concentrations of radium, a highly radioactive substance, in a stream near water bottle stanley a facility that treats wastewater left over from hydraulic fracturing. The concentrations are 200 times higher than background levels 鈥?and they ;re in the water supply. Fracking is the practice of stanley thermos pumping chemical-laced liquids underground at high pressure to help bring gasses, like methane, to the surface for extraction. But these chemicals are known to seep into groundwater. And the high-pressure may be causing earthquakes. Oklahomas strongest earthquake has been linked to the oil industry In Pennsylvania, there are 74 facilities that treat fracking wastewater 鈥?water that eventually makes its way back into local streams. But there no national set of guidelines that overlook and regulate this treatment process. What more, scientists have performed few studies of the wastewater to ensure that it safe after treatment. But now, as the Smithsonian reports, Duke scientists decided to do some testing: They contacted the owners of one treatment plant, the Josephine Brine Treatment Facility on Blacklick Creek in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, but, when we tried to work with them, it was very difficult getting ahold of the right person, says Avner Vengosh, an Earth scientist from Duke. Eventually, we just went and tested water right from a public area downstream. Their analyses, made on water samples collected r stanley becher epeatedly ov

Widespread sexual assaults are threatening the very existence of the U.S. Air Force Academy, says the school s new commanding officer. I ve seen the numbers, and we have a problem, Brig. Gen. Solar power is quickly coming into its own, growing some 35 percent worldwide last year to a total installed capacity of 136,697 MW. With its completion earlier this year, the Kagoshima plant is now the single largest solar installation in all of Japan. Both nations have precious little territory to install these huge arrays.
